Music

The Music Department of St. Catherine of Siena provides students with a strong foundation in general, vocal, and instrumental music.  The curriculum focuses on music theory, performance and history.  Students in all grades learn to read, write, and perform music.  Opportunities to formally perform are available with the choral and band programs.  Middle school choir members are invited to participate in a cantor program designed to develop them for solo performances.  Grades five through seven are taught the history of western music from the Renaissance Period through the 20th Century Period music.  There is a strong focus on the role of the Catholic Church in the history of music.   A developed appreciation for music allows students to develop critical thinking skills, creative abilities, and cultural awareness.
