Questions for the Nurse

Can I send my child to school with medication if needed? 

Yes, all medication (both over-the-counter and prescription) must be administered by the School Nurse and is not allowed to be carried in the student's backpack. The only medications allowed to be carried by students are asthma inhalers. All over-the-counter and prescription medication given to the nurse and inhalers carried by the student must have a signed permission form on file with the School Nurse. In addition, a written prescription from the physician must also be on file in the School Nurse's Office for prescription medication. 

How long do I need to keep my child home following a fever? 

Students should remain home for 24 hours following a fever of 100.5 degrees or greater. Students are considered fever free without the use of Tylenol or Ibuprofen. 

When do I need a doctor's note in order for my child to return to school? 

Any absences of 5 days or greater require a doctor's note in order for the child to return to school. Children with a communicable disease will also require at doctor's note in order to return to school following the illness.
