The middle school science program fosters a hands-on approach to learning. Students master scientific skills through inquiry, discussion, experimentation, and collaboration.
Focus
Fifth Grade: Students in fifth grade are provided with an overview of three branches of science: physical science, life science, and earth science. Exposure to these branches will provide students with a basis in scientific inquiry and concepts as they continue throughout middle school.
Sixth Grade: Students spend the year focusing on physical science, including an exploration of the periodic table of elements, chemical reactions, forces, energy, and electricity.
Seventh Grade: Students engage in a study of life science throughout the year, ranging from the components of cells to genetics. Students study the relationships among living things and how they are impacted by their environments through ecosystems, biomes, and cycles.
