Important:
All kids should be able to swim the following in order to participate on the team:
1. Enter the pool with a forward dive - we are not judging technique
2. Swim 50 yards without needing to stop and rest - this is the length of all races at meets, and half the length of each drill performed at practices
3. Be able to swim freestyle (front crawl) and take breaths with head turned to the side while continuing to swim
4. Be able to swim backstroke without turning the shoulders past the vertical (in other words, don't flip onto the stomach to stop and see where the pool wall is). It will be acceptable to stop arm strokes and reach overhead with one arm while kicking in order to prevent the feared head injury (and a coach will physically prevent this during tryouts)
Ability to perform flip turns, breaststroke and butterfly are not required, but HIGHLY desirable.
We highly encourage all students to participate in summer swim club teams or stroke lessons - the experience is very helpful.
